McLean Based Hilton Hotels Brings Unique Conrad Property to Nearby D.C.

The McLean, Virginia, based Hilton Hotels brings its first Conrad property to the D.C. area, close to the company’s heartland and city of origins. The new Conrad was designed by Swiss architects Herzog & de Meuron and offers guests a view of the surrounding cityscape from its rooftop bar or the hotel’s exclusive club, as well as its many terraces.

As the company has its roots in nearby McLean, the opening of this Conrad location is quite significant for Hilton, while the design of the Conrad itself creates a stunning silhouette that stands out from the crowd of area hotels and accommodations. Martin Rinck, Executive Vice President of Hilton, referred to the new D.C. Conrad as a “luxury hotel experience” never seen before in the area.

The hotel offers guests personalized services as well as proprietary culinary offerings at its signature restaurant, Estuary. The menu of this exclusive diner was created by chef James Beard and offers a modern cuisine sure to please even the most discriminatory tastes and dietary needs. Along with its eatery, the hotel also offers various terraces built into its design specifically to offer the most spectacular views of the capital and nearby cities, perfect for lounging after a long day on the road or for those looking to enjoy a new experience close to home.

The Hilton chain of hotels has long been a customer favorite, often vying for top spot on customer satisfaction surveys with Bethesda-based Marriott International. According to the 2018 American Customer Satisfaction Index travel report, both hotel chains were even as the top-rated group! Per the ACSI, the two companies have been jockeying for the number one position for some 25 years, with both Marriott and Hilton showing leadership positions in how hotels are judged, including cleanliness of rooms and quality of other amenities such as food, pools, and exercise rooms.

McLean-based Hilton’s other brands in their family of accommodations include Waldorf Astoria, DoubleTree, Embassy Suites and the more budget-friendly Hampton Inn. While competitor Marriott is concentrating on increasing its locations in Asia and Latin America while also expanding in the U.S., much of Hilton’s competition also comes from online brokers such as Airbnb. Online reviews and the ease of choosing various lodging locations is changing the way travelers choose their hotels and accommodations, says Daniel Guttentag, an assistant professor of hospitality management at the College of Charleston School of Business. Guttentag noted that more and more vacationers want their hotel to be part of their vacation experience, offering a feel of the local area, rather than just blending into the background of their travels.
